Ripple, a blockchain payments company focused on enterprise crypto infrastructure, shared new insights into Africa’s digital asset growth on April 6. The company pointed to rising usage, expanding partnerships, and increasing institutional interest across the region. The update focuses on how its products and network are supporting real-world financial activity and adoption. Ripple stated on social media platform X:

“South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Mauritius are all moving towards comprehensive crypto frameworks. Clear regulation enables innovation,” the company added.

In an insight published on the same day, Ripple detailed that the region has demonstrated strong adoption of new technologies to address financial challenges. It noted that Africa leads global mobile money and payments usage, accounting for 70% of the world’s $1 trillion mobile money market.

“In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, the number of adults with mobile money accounts grew to 40% in 2024 from 27% in 2021,” the company remarked. “Strikingly, a third of these account owners rely exclusively on mobile money for access to the global financial system.”

It also highlighted that Nigeria and Ethiopia ranked sixth and twelfth, respectively, in the 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index by Chainalysis, reflecting strong grassroots usage in both markets. The company noted that between July 2024 and June 2025, Sub-Saharan Africa received more than $205 billion in on-chain value, representing a 52% year-over-year increase and positioning the region among the fastest-growing crypto markets globally. Chainalysis evaluates countries based on grassroots adoption, transaction activity, and real-world crypto usage patterns.

Ripple described its growing footprint across Africa through partnerships and product deployment tied to measurable demand. Its stablecoin Ripple USD (RLUSD) is designed for trust, compliance, and enterprise utility across multiple jurisdictions.

Collaborations with Mercy Corps Ventures in Kenya aim to improve aid delivery transparency and speed. Partnerships with Chipper Cash, VALR, and Yellow Card expand institutional access to digital assets. The company also referenced its partnership with Absa Bank, supporting custody adoption. Ripple noted that 57% of finance leaders in its 2026 global survey prefer unified custody, orchestration, and compliance solutions.

Across the continent, regulatory progress continues to expand as more jurisdictions move toward formal oversight models. Several markets are advancing licensing structures and compliance standards, while others remain in exploratory stages. This trend reflects growing coordination and clearer operating conditions for digital asset providers entering African markets.
